Andrew Cromarty, Chief Technology Officer and CIO
Andrew Cromarty is the Chief Technology Officer of UNION SQUARE ADVISORS. Prior to joining Union Square, Dr. Cromarty gained executive-level experience as the CTO or CTO/CIO of numerous public and private technology industry companies, including DAX Solutions, SoftNet Systems, ISP Channel, Intellicom (the former Xerox Skyway), Fifth Day Therapeutics, and Aerzone. Dr. Cromarty spent the first 15 years of his career in management at various Silicon Valley startups, and at DEC’s (later Compaq’s) Western Research Laboratory and Network Systems Laboratory, where his industry-leading research focused on broadband multimedia content delivery and Internet business models. He earned a Ph.D. in Computer and Information Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, with a doctoral dissertation on distributed real-time knowledge-based computing. He also wrote a second doctoral dissertation in computational biology, and earned bachelors degrees from Wesleyan University in biology, psychology and music. Dr. Cromarty has served on several corporate and strategic venture capital fund boards, including as Chairman of the Board of venture-funded Lucent spinout Freewire Networks, and currently serves on the University of California President’s Advisory Board.
