James P. Parmelee, Partner Jim Parmelee is a Partner in UNION SQUARE ADVISORS. Prior to joining Union Square, Mr. Parmelee most recently was a Managing Director at Credit Suisse First Boston, where he headed the global communications equipment equity research practice. Mr. Parmelee began his career in research in 1992 as the wireline telecom equipment analyst for The First Boston Corporation. From 1996 to 1998, he was the wireline telecom equipment analyst for the Deutsche Morgan Grenfell Technology Group. Over the course of his equity research career (1992-2004), Mr. Parmelee was consistently recognized as a top ranked analyst covering the wireline telecom equipment market by leading external polls including Greenwich Associates (#1 ranking in 1999 and 2000), Institutional Investor Magazine (1997-2002, #2 ranking in 2001), The Wall Street Journal (named 5 times to their Best on the Street list) and Reuters (2 #1 rankings). Mr. Parmelee executed as the research analyst for the lead investment bank over 15 initial public (IPO) and secondary offerings of securities raising over $4.1 billion in common stock and over $1.1 billion in subordinated notes. He also acted as an advisor (“over the wall”) on leading communications mergers/acquisitions including Cerent Corporation’s $6.9 billion merger with Cisco Systems, Nortel Networks’ $9.1 billion merger with Bay Networks and Ascend Communications’ $2.9 billion merger with Cascade Communications. Prior to his career in equity research, Mr. Parmelee was a senior systems consultant for Andersen Consulting (now known as Accenture) with a focus on serving the aerospace/defense industry.
