Careers - Union Square Advisors

Our Five Cornerstones

Experience: A Superior Team

Great teams deliver great results. Our team is led by former heads of the world’s leading technology investment banking practices and professionals with successful experiences in mergers & acquisitions, corporate development and agented private capital financing services. We are widely regarded as experts in our fields, having advised clients through numerous technology cycles – not just the latest uptick or downturn.

Insight: Exceptional Wisdom

We provide clear, relevant and timely advice built on deep domain knowledge, keen strategic understanding and critical judgment that are the collective by-product of long-tenured, successful experience. We combine the talents of industry experts with those of seasoned advisory and transaction execution professionals to seamlessly deliver our services through a single, integrated team.

Focus: Unparalleled Commitment

We are exclusively and firmly committed to the success of our clients, delivering independent and conflict-free advice of the highest integrity. We focus solely on the advisory component of investment banking, providing strategic mergers & acquisitions advice and execution, agented private capital financing services and board advisory services. Senior bankers lead every execution team and dedicate their experience and attention to each individual client and transaction.

Access: Extensive Relationships

Changing market dynamics require a steady, knowledgeable and committed partner with real industry credibility and access. Our years of leadership in technology banking provide us with a far-reaching network of senior relationships throughout the technology, venture capital and private equity ecosystems. We leverage this network to deliver the best outcomes for our clients.

Entrepreneurism: Passion for Differentiation

Our senior team members left leadership roles in large investment banks to create a firm that could deliver the best of what those banks can offer, but in an entrepreneurial environment that enhances the quality of these services. We believe our ability to provide optimal transaction outcomes for our clients stems directly from our passion for building a world-class investment bank from the ground up.

Life at USA

#CultureMatters

TED SMITH, PRESIDENT

It was 15 years ago when, together with my partner Carter McClelland, we founded Union Square Advisors. In fact, we wrote the business plan for the firm – from scratch! – right on my kitchen table.

Our founding principles included a sincere belief in entrepreneurism, doing great advisory work with and across from successful technology companies, all while working with collaborative and respectful colleagues who believe that #CultureMatters.

“Today, our success is palpable, as we continue to punch way above our weight class in terms of transaction size and influence. These achievements are a direct result of our founding principles and a team of incredibly bright, talented and determined colleagues along the way. And we are just getting started!”

From the beginning, we knew that finding, attracting and retaining diverse talent would be critical to the firm’s success – as it leads to stronger teams and better business outcomes. This approach to talent is applied at all levels of hiring from our most junior summer analysts to the most senior bankers in our ranks.

“As we look ahead to the next 15 years, culture will remain a critical focus of our firm and our success. #CultureMatters”

Today, our success is palpable, as we continue to punch way above our weight class in terms of transaction size and influence. These achievements are a direct result of our founding principles and a team of incredibly bright, talented and determined colleagues along the way. And we are just getting started!

As we look ahead to the next 15 years, culture will remain a critical focus of our firm and our success. If this perspective rings true to you, I encourage you to apply to an open role where your skills align.

Interning at USA

by Caroline Dunleavy

As a Summer Analyst at Union Square Advisors, I had the opportunity to develop strong relationships with mentors and leaders at the firm, participate and learn as a member of various deal teams, and develop knowledge and understanding of the technology and software landscapes. Additionally, I produced an intern project that included an investment thesis of a potential leveraged buyout target. Although my internships were just ten weeks, I experienced tremendous professional and personal growth. I felt the strong sense of team that is unique and special to USA. A highlight of my internships was the guidance that I received from firm leaders through USA’s mentor program. Being paired with a junior and senior mentor enabled me to learn about their experiences at various career stages and gain insights on day-to-day life as an analyst. I benefited from big-picture career advice from people who had been in my position. They truly wanted to see me succeed and reflected USA’s supportive team environment. Summer Analysts at USA are given real responsibilities on deal teams and are treated as valued members of the firm. I am grateful to return as a full-time analyst and continue to learn and grow alongside the USA team.
